Flushed Pets

That’s the only way I can account for the number of squid populating my sewers:

In related news, my sewers connect Moonglow to my house, to the spawn point, to Bjorn’s (though the connection hasn’t technically been made, it goes around his place, anyway), to Star Island, to Christa’s latest house (over 5 km of tunnels so far!).  I’m working on finishing the tunnels, as not all are lit or flooded as in the picture above.  Plus, I’ll be making more connections if/when people want the connections made to their places.  It’s mostly ornamental right now, but should the teleportation ever go down again, these safe passages will be quite welcome, I think.

I Finally Upgraded! And some more things..

…my router. I’m now running Toastman’s Tomato on an Asus RT-N16. I decided to go with a single band router for 2 reasons, the first being cost. Dual-banders, with the features I wanted, cost half again as much. The second is that there’s not a single PC here (I think) that supports the 5 GHz band, and all but 2 support N. The first thing I noticed is that this thing has a ton more available memory, there are people out there that managed to put an anti-virus program on it, set it up for use as a server, use it for torrenting, getting stuff off of usenet, and so forth. So, it goes without saying that since I’m just using it as an AP, the thing is damned near rock solid. The only hiccups were when, every 3rd or so reboot, it will throttle down one particular PC, regardless of whether or not it was using one wireless card or another. But, it’s been up now for about a month and everything works. So now it’s time for some tweaking!

Being Mean to Minecraft

UPDATE 20110216 1942:  Whitelist is working and populated:

Whitelist is working

Whitelist is working

UPDATE 20110215 1943:  General and Permissions both work:

if /help shows the help message, then General is working

if /help shows the help message, then General is working

I seem to be having trouble downloading the Whitelist plugin – their webserver seems to be either down or overloaded at the moment.

UPDATE 20110214 1854:  Bukkit Lives!  I’m just a moron:  Minecraft doesn’t use Linux’s tcpd wrapper for net access so it does its own binding calls.  Naturally, is already taken up by tcpd.  Once I told it what interface to listen on, it worked fine:

Bukkit Lives! (And I'm an idiot!)

Bukkit Lives! (And I'm an idiot!)

And I’m running Minecraft at niceness 10 so it doesn’t take anything away from the rest of what dustpuppy’s running:

I remember Quake Team Fortress

The original TF was probably the best game I ever played.  I was reminded of it when my login fortune this morning was:

<Knghtbrd> 2fort5 sucks enough to have its own gravity …

Heh.  When I started playing Quake Team Fortress in 1994, 2fort4 was the default map.  Everyone played on 3dfx Voodoo cards and Glide was the new thing in graphics.  Having transparent water and mirrored surfaces was so damn cool…  When 2fort5 came out there were upgrades to the base structures as well as enhanced gameplay – snipers could call in airstrikes!

I remember pipebomb traps, detpacks, MIRV grenades, nail grenades, and proxy mines.  OH!  And the 20mm autocannon option for the hwguy!  And how the medic’s primary weapon was an axe that healed instead of damaging.  😛

Does anyone still play the original Team Fortress anymore?  If anyone wants a server, I’d be willing to host.  SavageChicken has some spare cycles.

I need a MMO Stat!

So here’s the deal, I’m in a Cultures of Online Gaming class. I’m going to need three online games to play through out the semester. I have no idea what to do because the professor asks that we step out of our comfort box and play something new. I have played a lot of games. List:

World of Warcraft

Star Trek Online

Guild Wars

Second Life (I HATE IT!)

I would like a game that doesn’t suck and doesn’t cost a lot. Text based are okay, but I wouldn’t even know where to start looking.

A Very Girly Tour

Today, I found myself standing in front of an odd little cafe. It seemed very unfinished as it was missing two walls.

    Things in Teh Joshenlife

I’ve been quiet for a few days.  I’ve been going to work and generally living daily life.  But a few things of note should be mentioned:

    1. Me & Alicia – not happening.  Probably mostly my fault, too.  Mackenzie is helping me through the post-mortem.  While this isn’t good news by any means, I’m not as upset about it as I thought I would be.  In any case, I still think Alicia is an awesome person and TRON WAS FREAKING AWESOME!
    2. I have yet another root canal scheduled.  After this one I will have no living nerve tissue in any of my four first molars.  (#3 had root canal therapy and a retreat and then was extracted due to a recurring infection and anatomical complications.  #14 had successful root canal therapy and is still fine.  #30 had successful root canal therapy and is still fine.)  #19 began to become sensitive and the dentist did post & core and crown prep on it last Thursday.  But it’s gotten more painful since then so the dentist suggested I schedule a root canal appointment.  It’s 3 weeks from now but ibuprofen works fine for the pain so I should be okay until then.
    3. I’m still working on the freelance Degree Scheduler for the Grand Lodge.
    4. I’ve joined a local furry group.  Part of a sort of network of furries around the southern tip of Lake Michigan.
    5. I’m going to the Midwinter Gaming Con here in Milwaukee this weekend.  E-mail or call me if you want to get a group together.
    6. I’ve decided that I really like the idea of Sean doing my fursona art.  Even if I could afford Amber Williams’ very high rates (and wait the two year backlog she has), it wouldn’t be as personal and special as having a good friend draw the character.  So thanks, Sean.
    7. I still haven’t found where they hide all the geeky girls, besides in other guys’ beds.  🙂
    8. And last night I managed to get a quote in xkcdb, said by me to PaulAgostinelli:

[18:54:32] PaulAgostinelli: I just had the mental image of cyberpunk breast implants with touch-sensing spike traps.

Other than that, it’s just been business as usual.  Once school starts, I hope to attend weekly Shadowrun sessions again. I have Chrissymas prezzies for Mackenzie.  And I still need people to help me drink the bottle of Gewürztraminer.
