Summer D&D

This summer, we’re hoping to run a Dungeons & Dragons campaign.  I believe everyone who is meant to be invited has received notice by this point.  This post is intended to be a resource regarding the details of the campaign, and will be updated periodically to reflect new information.

The campaign is The Red Hand of Doom, from Wizards of the Coast.  I include this for your general enlightenment, but encourage everyone to avoid looking it up, lest you gain all the spoilers (and make us sad).  Dan will be DMing this.

Important Note:  This campaign is currently intended to be set in Eberron.   Eberron has some variations in rules and has additional races, as well as a different pantheon.  If you do not have access to an Eberron setting guide, let me know and I’ll get you hooked up with a copy.

For character creation, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

The New Building in Teh Joshenlands

Some of you may have noticed a new building going up rapidly in Teh Joshenlands.  (here.)  Want a tour?

What Fathead Said

I have a new phone.  It’s an LG Optimus V.  When I’m using IRC on it, I tend to use the swype input method since it is faster than hitting each key.  It works fairly well most of the time.  Except when I try to swype in someone’s name.

A grand day out

You guys remember Chris (aka SandCat) from my birthday party?  Well, he needs to get out of the house more often.  He’s into books and DnD and I was wondering if you guys wanted to help me show him a good time by hanging out at a bookstore or doing a one-shot game session sometime?  We can coordinate schedules.

Being Mean to Minecraft

UPDATE 20110216 1942:  Whitelist is working and populated:

Whitelist is working

Whitelist is working

UPDATE 20110215 1943:  General and Permissions both work:

if /help shows the help message, then General is working

if /help shows the help message, then General is working

I seem to be having trouble downloading the Whitelist plugin – their webserver seems to be either down or overloaded at the moment.

UPDATE 20110214 1854:  Bukkit Lives!  I’m just a moron:  Minecraft doesn’t use Linux’s tcpd wrapper for net access so it does its own binding calls.  Naturally, is already taken up by tcpd.  Once I told it what interface to listen on, it worked fine:

Bukkit Lives! (And I'm an idiot!)

Bukkit Lives! (And I'm an idiot!)

And I’m running Minecraft at niceness 10 so it doesn’t take anything away from the rest of what dustpuppy’s running:

I remember Quake Team Fortress

The original TF was probably the best game I ever played.  I was reminded of it when my login fortune this morning was:

<Knghtbrd> 2fort5 sucks enough to have its own gravity …

Heh.  When I started playing Quake Team Fortress in 1994, 2fort4 was the default map.  Everyone played on 3dfx Voodoo cards and Glide was the new thing in graphics.  Having transparent water and mirrored surfaces was so damn cool…  When 2fort5 came out there were upgrades to the base structures as well as enhanced gameplay – snipers could call in airstrikes!

I remember pipebomb traps, detpacks, MIRV grenades, nail grenades, and proxy mines.  OH!  And the 20mm autocannon option for the hwguy!  And how the medic’s primary weapon was an axe that healed instead of damaging.  😛

Does anyone still play the original Team Fortress anymore?  If anyone wants a server, I’d be willing to host.  SavageChicken has some spare cycles.

I need a MMO Stat!

So here’s the deal, I’m in a Cultures of Online Gaming class. I’m going to need three online games to play through out the semester. I have no idea what to do because the professor asks that we step out of our comfort box and play something new. I have played a lot of games. List:

World of Warcraft

Star Trek Online

Guild Wars

Second Life (I HATE IT!)

I would like a game that doesn’t suck and doesn’t cost a lot. Text based are okay, but I wouldn’t even know where to start looking.

DnD, #xkcd style

I joined the D&D campaign that runs on Sunday nights in #xkcd-dnd (invitation required).  My character is an Elf druid with a wolf companion (can’t have a mustelid until 3rd level and even then it’s a dire weasel – no ferrets or mink :P):
