Kitesfear’s /etc/rc.local

/etc/rc.local is the system-specific initialization script that runs at the end of the startup sequence. Here’s what I run when I reboot my server:

# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

cat /etc/servicetag > /dev/console # Gives info about the system like who to call for tech support
touch /var/lock/subsys/local # Set timestamp to gauge stale lockfiles
mount -o bind /export/home/homelan/tmp /home/homelan/tmp # autofs doesn't automatically bind mount points so I do it manually after autofs starts
/home/imbrius/scripts/mkissue.net.pl # Creates /etc/issue.net from the /etc/issue template file
renice -1 `pidof mysqld` # mysqld should run at higher priority than the daemons it serves like httpd
#renice 2 `pidof transmission-daemon` # transmission-daemon is a resource hog
cat /dev/null > /etc/motd # Clear previous MOTD
