Mother in hospital

The mother is in the hospital.  She’s apparently had emphysema for some time but this latest round of cold and cough caused her to get pneumonia.  Last night she stopped breathing.  When she got to the hospital, she had a small heart attack.  They’re currently  treating the pneumonia the most aggressively.  She’s making progress but slowly.

Update on mother’s condition: She’s off the ventilator today – they removed the breathing tube and everything looks good. The nurses are confident and if she’s still fine, she might get to go home on Monday. She has yet to have the cardiac catheterization procedure to remove the plaque from two of her arteries.

That’s excellent news. And, from what I’ve read, St. Luke’s is a really, REALLY, good place to go if you have any cardiac problems.

The pulmonologists at St. Luke’s determined that the mother doesn’t have COPD (emphysema). Which is vry good news.
