A First Look at Carcamaica, the Ferret

I gave my very talented friend Sean this text file to work from and asked him to bring the character to life.  He’s done an amazing job so far and here are the first pictures that we’re both satisfied with:

Carcamaica (a.k.a. Mike) the Ferret at his workbench

I love his devious little ferret smile.  🙂

Aside from the freakish orange hair (:P), I love everything about this pic.  His hands and feet are spot-on, his tail is better than what I had in mind, and his overall appearance is just perfect.  He has whiskers and a perfect brick nose, thin wire frame glasses, ferret ears, and that gleefully-devious ferret smile.  I think Sean has this character NAILED!

If you couldn’t tell, I’m thoroughly pleased with this.

Nice to see your character coming to life! You should come share on #xkcdfurs, I need to get a hold of you before the game starts.

Oh – Excellent call on the green eyes, Sean. They fit perfectly.

I also love it that his boss apparently lets him show up to work shirtless 😉

A Quenya Scholar (rightly) pointed out that “Carcamaica,” despite being a literal translation of “piercing fang,” really sounds more like “fang of piercing.” In other words, it would be a great name for a dagger but a lousy name for a kid. “Maicacarca” would sound much better.

This actually works out perfectly because his mom was a former hippie and admitted Tolkien freak. Doesn’t mean that she was a linguist. 😛 Also helps explain why he prefers “Mike.”
