It turns out I have a 250GB Seagate FreeAgent for backup. Here’s my current disk usage snapshot:
green [imbrius@dustpuppy conet]$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 2.0G 741M 1.2G 40% / /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol11 2.0G 76M 1.8G 4% /tmp /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol12 301G 87G 200G 31% /export/home /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01 7.8G 4.7G 2.8G 63% /opt /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02 7.8G 2.9G 4.5G 40% /usr /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol10 992M 794M 147M 85% /usr/local /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol03 3.9G 1.2G 2.6G 31% /var /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol09 7.8G 414M 7.0G 6% /var/lib/mysql /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol05 93G 8.5G 79G 10% /var/ftp /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol06 2.0G 213M 1.7G 12% /var/cache /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol08 2.0G 239M 1.7G 13% /var/spool /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol04 2.0G 294M 1.6G 16% /var/log /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol07 496M 56M 415M 12% /var/www /dev/hda1 122M 33M 84M 28% /boot tmpfs 506M 0 506M 0% /dev/shm /dev/sdc1 230G 230G 0 100% /media/usb
/dev/sdc1 is my Seagate FreeAgent drive (mounted on /media/usb). All 230 GB is used:
(I was going to post the disk usage tree for the FreeAgent drive but I have to wait for the fsck to finish before I can mount it:)
green [imbrius@dustpuppy ~]$ sudo /sbin/fsck /dev/sdc1 fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) e2fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) /dev/sdc1 contains a file system with errors, check forced. Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes Pass 2: Checking directory structure Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity Pass 4: Checking reference counts Pass 5: Checking group summary information /dev/sdc1: 101/30539776 files (33.7% non-contiguous), 61049000/61049000 blocks
Okay it finished:
here’s the contents of the USB drive, largest to smallest:

The “excelsiorlodge_X.tar.bz2” files are the old Excelsior Lodge files that I’m keeping in case Lake Lodge wants them for anything. The rest of the files “{filesystem}.{level}” are compressed ext2 dumps. Level 0 is a full backup. Level 1 is a differential backup. All other levels are incremental backups. The backup follows a Tower of Hanoi sequence:
0, 3, 2, 5, 4, 7, 6, 9, 8,
1A, 3, 2, 5, 4, 7, 6, 9, 8,
1B, 3, 2, 5, 4, 7, 6, 9, 8,
1C, 3, 2, 5, 5, 7, 6, 9, 8
There’s one level 0 dump on the first of each month.

The Display disk usage in colors related post link is pretty cool. I’m so using that one!

BTW, my Bash prompt is
Where history is the number of the command entered in this shell session.

Chad, please put a </pre> tag after the “Hostname history%” line in the above comment. Thanks!

You had put in a second <pre> tag in.
