It’s all about timing

Alright.  As I’ve noted previously, the holidays are here.  As such, questions have been arising as to when exchange day is.  I think there’s two or more answers to that.

After that, however, I was thinking we could find a day to all pull together for a get-together (location TBD).  Exam week runs to the 23rd this year, and while I’d be fine with a meet during exams, I know it may be hard for some.  For what it’s worth, my exams are all on Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th.

Then finally, there’s New Years, which has different casts of characters every year and should not be depended upon.  I suspect we’ll probably meet once more after that, and prior to the resumption of classes January 25th.

To wrap…The 10th is a legitimate date, and I’m sure gifts will be accepted, but being only a week away, it may be sparsely gifted.  And so I put to the rest of you:  Who is up for a holiday gathering?  When?  And are you willing to host?

  1. #1 by Chadwick on December 2, 2009 - 5:37 AM

To answer my own questions: Me; preferably after the 17th; and yes, though as usual, it would be a question of who wants to trek out to Oconomowoc. Oh, and the room we’d likely use is slightly under construction, so…why don’t we consider me a fallback.

  2. #2 by Christa on December 2, 2009 - 7:53 AM

Well, as always, I can not and even if I could, should not host people at my place. Way too small. I also have no idea when my finals are. Other than that, I’m up for anything.

    • #3 by Chadwick on December 2, 2009 - 7:56 AM

Well get back to us on the finals thing.

  3. #4 by Matt on December 2, 2009 - 10:03 AM

When a date is settled upon, let me know so I can take off of work.

    Or at least try to.

  4. #6 by Joshua on December 2, 2009 - 11:50 AM

I’d be up for hosting again if everyone’s good with that. I’d been planning on the 17th being Teh Gathering, Holiday Edition anyway. I had assumed that it would be at Chad’s place, however, since that’s what we had discussed. Exchange for me could happen any time – I’m done buying gifts, mostly because I ran out of money. 🙂

    • #7 by Chadwick on December 2, 2009 - 12:17 PM

I didn’t know running out of money got smileys these days.

      • #8 by Joshua on December 2, 2009 - 12:19 PM

Well, it’s not the running out of money that makes me smile, it’s the sad commentary that I want to give my friends and family nice things that they’ll appreciate but without a Job, that’s not all that feasible.

    • #9 by Joshua on December 2, 2009 - 12:22 PM

Though I have to say that I haven’t wrapped anything yet.

  5. #10 by Phillip on December 2, 2009 - 3:45 PM

    I wouldn’t have a problem here, either.

  6. #11 by Joshua on December 3, 2009 - 7:13 AM

I’ma be a bitsy late to Chadowrun today – I have an interview at 2:30 on 124th and National. At least I can stay as late as I want tonight. 🙂

    • #12 by Chadwick on December 3, 2009 - 8:18 AM

Well, you know how Kurt and Matt tend not to arrive until around 4:00 anyway, so you shouldn’t be too late.

  7. #13 by Joshua on December 7, 2009 - 8:24 AM

So are we settled on my house on Thrusday, December 17th for the Christmas Party? Since it’s a weekday, we’d have to shut the party down by 10:00. If this is gonna happen, then I need to start getting stuff ready.

    • #14 by Chadwick on December 7, 2009 - 4:22 PM

I think it might have to be Friday the 18th. Christa’s got a Friday morning exam, so it might just work better that way. I’ve been waiting for her to get back to me with her exam schedule. I think just about everyone else has no conflicts.

      • #15 by Joshua on December 7, 2009 - 8:50 PM

I’d be up for Friday, too. Either way.

      • #16 by Christa on December 7, 2009 - 10:35 PM

I have a final at 10 on the 18th so I’m fine for afternoon. Also, this means that I might be putting off finishing Christmas gifts until then.

  8. #17 by Chadwick on December 7, 2009 - 10:29 PM

Okay, so is everyone good for Friday, December 18th at Josh’s in the afternoon? (Uh, Josh? You got a time you’d prefer to do this at?)

    • #18 by Phillip on December 7, 2009 - 11:53 PM

      Should work for me.

    • #19 by VisualHierarchy on December 8, 2009 - 1:20 AM

I work until 3pm, but after that I will be free. I’d probably need a ride though as I don’t feel like biking. Is anyone passing through east milwaukee on their way?

      • #20 by Chadwick on December 8, 2009 - 5:08 AM

Well Christa’s got her exam, so we may be on campus.

    • #21 by Joshua on December 8, 2009 - 7:06 AM

Any time – afternoon, evening, doesn’t matter to me – it’s a Friday.

      • #22 by Chadwick on December 8, 2009 - 7:44 AM

Right. Well probably after 3, then, and we can pick up Sean.

        • #23 by Joshua on December 8, 2009 - 7:52 AM

Works for me. Any ideas for supper then? Pizza for christmas sounds a bit crass but I don’t have a whole lot of money to spend.

          • #24 by Chadwick on December 8, 2009 - 7:56 AM

Well pizza always works for me. Hopefully we can chip in some cash to help cover.

          • #25 by Joshua on December 8, 2009 - 7:58 AM

We have Cataro’s on the corner – that’s what we had last time. Or we have the Hut, Domino’s, or Papa John’s. Whatever anyone feels like.

          • #26 by Chadwick on December 8, 2009 - 1:19 PM

Never had Papa John’s, but I’ve heard VERY good things.

          • #27 by Joshua on December 8, 2009 - 1:21 PM

I like Papa John’s better than a Hut and much better than Domino’s but my favorite is still Cataro’s on the corner of the block – it’s been then since 1956 and I know the folks that own it. They’re very nice people and even though they’re Polish (Klobukowski), they make amazingly good Italian food.

  9. #28 by Andrew D. on December 7, 2009 - 11:38 PM

I’m done on the 11th since I don’t have any papers due finals week.

That said, I can guarantee that I’m working on Friday afternoon. I can probably be available on the 18th after 6 PM, weather permitting.

  10. #29 by Joshua on December 12, 2009 - 12:24 PM

What time do we want to start and what kind of food should I provide for you peoples? And what kind of food are you peoples bringing?

    • #30 by Chadwick on December 12, 2009 - 2:41 PM

Well Christa and I will be picking up Sean around 3:00-3:30, and coming by your place after that, if it sounds good to you. So like 3:30/4:00ish.

I think Christa planned to bring some cookies/goodies of some sort. Any ideas what should be brought?

      • #31 by Joshua on December 12, 2009 - 2:51 PM

Okay. So far in the house, I have Pepsi products, peanut butter squares, brownies for Chad, and beer. I haven’t sausage, pizza, chips, etc. You guys kinda need to tell me what food you want to eat at this thing so I can supply it. Or you can supply it. Or however that’s going to work. We have to agree on something to eat.

      • #32 by Chadwick on December 12, 2009 - 6:23 PM

Oh, and if Sean’s not gonna be out at 3:00, I don’t know if we want to wait that long. When would you like to start?

        • #33 by Joshua on December 13, 2009 - 8:12 AM

Really any time before 10:00 PM. If we’re finishing the Chadowrun we started last week, we ought to time it for maximum availability.

  11. #34 by Joshua on December 12, 2009 - 2:03 PM

The Chad, you indicated that due to allergies, you can’t eating the peanut butter squares. So I bought a fudge brownie mix also. No nuts in it. Does that work for you?

    • #35 by Chadwick on December 12, 2009 - 2:43 PM

Oh, totally. Though I think I pointed out that it’s not actually allergies. I just don’t touch nuts and most of their associated products.

      • #36 by Joshua on December 12, 2009 - 2:50 PM

Yeah but it makes sense to call it an allergy. In the same vein, I’m “allergic” to mayonnaise. I’m not medically allergic but I can taste the slightest bit of it used in a sauce and I’ll refuse to eat anything containing mayonnaise or mayonnaise-like substances, including all forms of salad dressing, even oil-based ones.

        • #37 by MHook on December 15, 2009 - 7:24 PM

all forms of salad dressing including oil? so you don’t eat salads i’ll assume?

          • #38 by Joshua on December 16, 2009 - 7:08 AM

            I eats a salads what doesn’t has a dressings. 🙂

  12. #39 by VisualHierarchy on December 12, 2009 - 3:54 PM

Hey Chad, I figured writing here would be better than calling.. anyways I made a mistake on my schedule and I actually have to work until 5. When does christa’s final end?

Also Josh, what is your address again? I’m going to look up bus routes/ bike feasability

    • #40 by Joshua on December 12, 2009 - 3:56 PM

      1751 S. 58th Street
      West Allis, WI 53214

    • #41 by Chadwick on December 12, 2009 - 6:18 PM

      Route 44U Exam Schedule

  13. #43 by Joshua on December 15, 2009 - 6:49 PM

Alright. I need to know now: Does Sean need a ride? What time are people coming? What food do you want me to buy?

    • #44 by Chadwick on December 15, 2009 - 7:20 PM

Tell you what; if you snag pizza, I’ll make sure that everyone else brings anything else. And I know you’re poor, so if you want, we can reimburse you (maybe only partly, but still) for the pizza.

I’ll pop this over to Sean so he can answer that one, and as for what time, I’ll have to ask Christa. Sometime in the afternoon, I know that much.

      • #45 by Joshua on December 15, 2009 - 7:23 PM

Reimbursement isn’t necessary. But thanks anyway.

    • #46 by Chadwick on December 15, 2009 - 7:21 PM

Oh, and I’ll commit to a case of Mt. Dew, aluminum cans, 24-ct.

      Anyone else?

      • #47 by Joshua on December 15, 2009 - 7:24 PM

Cool. I got Cherry Pepsi, about 12 cans.

      • #48 by VisualHierarchy on December 15, 2009 - 8:10 PM

Ok, so I can take the 5:30 bus for the 44U, but if anyone is driving back through milwaukee that would be awesome as the bus stops kinda early.

I will bring some sort of food, but I’m not sure what yet. How many people total are coming?

        • #49 by Chadwick on December 15, 2009 - 8:31 PM

I’m sure one of us can get you.

Oh, and the answer seems to be 6-8. I think.

          • #50 by Joshua on December 16, 2009 - 7:09 AM

As in people are coming between 6 and 8 or people are coming at 6 and leaving at 8?

          • #51 by Chadwick on December 16, 2009 - 7:24 AM

As in the number of people would be between 6 and 8. Sorry, was directed at Sean.

How ’bout the Christa and I show up around 3 PM? Just throwing a number out there. Bjorn’s off work at 2:30 he said, I think, and Phil can show up whenever. I don’t know if Matt’s new work will still have him by then. Sean’ll be a bit later.

We can chill for a bit, save the gift exchange for when Sean arrives, just have some fun, do what we do, etc.

            How’s that sound?

          • #52 by Joshua on December 16, 2009 - 7:30 AM

Sounds damn perfect! I’ll plan on that, then. Hopefully Dorney, Erin, and them know that they’re invited, too. Paul, Kurt, etc. Really anyone who wants to show up.

          • #53 by Joshua on December 16, 2009 - 7:31 AM

Except 2.0. He’s not invited. Yes I’m being petty but I really don’t like him. Just sayin’.

        • #54 by Chadwick on December 16, 2009 - 10:57 AM

Dorney’s got work, but I guess he’s showing up afterward. Erin promised her dad they’d go out to the bow/arrow range, I guess. But she sends her regards.

  14. #55 by Joshua on December 16, 2009 - 7:30 PM

I hope you mean the 522 bus. That sked is supposed to be a grid. Leaving at 522, then the various arrivals at the different park & rides. The one at State Fair is first and you would be here at 551. Any questions just go to MCTS and pull up the grid. You scared me when you said the 530 bus,cuz there is no such thing. Let me know you understand.

    • #56 by VisualHierarchy on December 16, 2009 - 8:39 PM

Ok, I was looking at the normal times earlier and didn’t notice the exam schedule! So yes, I will be taking the 5:22. Thanks for the check up Josh 🙂
